Birthmark Removal in Seoul: Laser Treatment for Pigmented and Vascular Marks

Café‑au‑lait spots, nevus of Ota, Becker’s naevus and port‑wine stains each need a different laser. A dermatologist identifies your birthmark type first, then plans pico, Q‑switched or vascular laser sessions.

Pico laser birthmark removal at Delight Dermatology Clinic, Gangnam, Seoul

Can birthmarks be removed with laser?

Many birthmarks can be significantly lightened with laser — pigment lasers (pico or Q‑switched Nd:YAG) for brown or blue‑grey marks and vascular lasers for red marks — usually over several sessions. Some marks fade almost completely, others partially; raised or changing marks may need excision instead.

Sessions 3–10+
Interval 4–8 weeks
Downtime 3–7 days
Anaesthesia Numbing cream

Types we treat

Which birthmarks respond to laser?

Diagnosis decides the laser. Dermoscopy separates pigment, vascular and mole‑type birthmarks.

Nevus of Ota

Blue‑grey facial pigment that responds well to repeated pico or Q‑switched laser.

Café‑au‑lait spots

Light‑brown patches; results vary and recurrence is possible.

Becker’s naevus

Brown patch, often with hair; pigment and hair may both need treatment.

Port‑wine stains

Red vascular marks treated with vascular laser over many sessions.

Congenital moles

Need examination and usually excision rather than laser; see mole checks.

Other pigment

Sun spots and melasma are different; see pigmentation treatment.

How it works

How laser lightens birthmarks

Very short laser pulses shatter pigment particles, which the body then clears. Vascular lasers instead target haemoglobin in the small vessels of red marks. Several gentle sessions are safer than one aggressive one.

  • After each session: darkening or crusting for a few days
  • Weeks 2–6: gradual lightening
  • Course: 3–10+ sessions depending on type and depth
  • Follow‑up: sun protection prevents re‑darkening
